Review Type: Festival

It’s that time of year again…Time for the $100 Film Festival! This year brings about a new swanky urban venue (The Globe Cinema), and three nights packed full of all the Super 8 and 16mm film your optical receivers can handle!!!

My personal favorite film in this year’s festival line-up was Paul Clipson’s Another Void (16mm, San Francisco, CA, 2012 10min.).  The music blended in my brain with what my eyes were experiencing and made my heart want to burst! Maybe it was because some other films lacked any sound at all and were void of  all color. Though Clipson’s film is called Another Void, it is anything but Another Void, it spoke to my creative little soul.  Clipson is a San Francisco-based artist who primarily works in film, video and on paper, often collaborating on films, live performances and installations with sound artists and musicians.  For this year’s $100 Film Festival, Clipson is the visiting artist and will be giving an artist talk Saturday March 9th at 1pm at the Old Y (Community Wise Centre, 223 12th Ave SW) for a $5 admission. Along with a Q&A, Clipson will be screening some of his previous super 8 films.

I am also looking forward to the  FILM/MUSIC Explosion Friday night (March 8/12) Not a Care for Dust between The You Are Minez and Ramin Eshraghi-Yazdi co-presented by Sled Island.  Eshraghi-Yazdi is known locally for his experimental art installation, documentary film, broadcast commercials and his adorable music videos like the one he did for Samantha Savage Smith’s song The Score.  This is the best $100 Film Festival yet and not to be missed!!!
